In the year 2257, humans have colonized a distant planet called New World, where all men are affected by a strange phenomenon known as The Noise. This condition causes their thoughts to be projected outward in the form of sounds and images, making them constantly visible to others. Todd Hewitt, a young man living in Prentisstown, grows up believing that all women on the planet were wiped out by the native species, the Spackle, during a past war. He lives with his adoptive fathers, Ben and Cillian, who teach him how to control his Noise.

One day, Todd stumbles upon a crashed spaceship in the forest, where he encounters a girl named Viola Eade. Viola is a survivor from the second wave of human explorers sent to establish contact with Earth. Her presence shocks Todd, as she is the first woman he has ever seen. Unlike the men on New World, Viola is not affected by the Noise, making her a mystery to Todd and a potential threat to the other townspeople.

When Mayor Prentiss learns of Viola’s existence, he immediately sees her as a danger. Todd soon discovers that Prentiss has been hiding a horrifying truth: women were not killed by the Spackle, but were actually massacred by the men of Prentisstown because they resented the fact that women were immune to the Noise. As Viola’s life becomes endangered, Ben and Cillian help Todd escape with her, urging them to flee the town.

Todd and Viola set off toward Farbranch, another settlement unknown to Todd. Along the way, they are relentlessly pursued by Prentiss and his men. When they finally reach Farbranch, Todd is shocked to find that women are alive and thriving there. The townspeople reveal the truth about Prentiss and his past crimes, making Todd question everything he has ever believed. However, before they can rest, Prentiss and his army attack the settlement, forcing Todd and Viola to flee once again.

Viola and Todd eventually locate her mothership, where more survivors from her expedition are preparing to land on New World. In the final battle, Todd confronts Prentiss, who manipulates the Noise to overpower and confuse him. However, with Viola’s help, Todd learns to use the Noise against Prentiss, tricking him into lowering his guard. Seizing the opportunity, Viola takes him down, putting an end to Prentisstown’s tyranny.

With Prentiss defeated, Viola successfully contacts her mothership, signaling the beginning of a new era for New World. Though injured, Todd is rescued and realizes that the world he once knew is gone. Determined to move forward, he chooses to help Viola and the new settlers build a better society, free from the lies and violence of the past. The film ends on a hopeful note, as humanity looks toward a brighter future on this distant planet.
